Tesla vs Lovecraft: For Science - PC Game Review

Tesla vs Lovecraft: For Science! is DLC for the excellent Tesla vs Lovecraft. It adds a lot of extra weapons (including epic versions of all existing ones), perks, abilities and even a couple of upgrades (health, generic damage increase). Very much worth the price if you already liked the base game.

The Knife of Dunwall: DLC for Dishonored - PC Game Review

Image
The Knife of Dunwall is a DLC pack for Dishonored, which has 3 missions where you play Daud, the assassin of the Empress. Daud has pretty much the same powers as Corvo did, but has some new powers and gadgets - including Summon Assassins, Chokedust (stuns enemies for a short while) and Stun/Vaporize mines. One particularly interesting addition is the concept of Favors. You can buy those before a mission, and they can be something like a disabled alarm, a rune placed somewhere or a code to a safe. Very useful! I have finished the first mission, and I like it as much as the regular missions, that is, very much. Strongly recommended for fans of the game. And if you haven't looked into it already, I strongly recommend it too, and you can read my review for Dishonored . A nice start for the first mission of The Knife of Dunwall

Fire and Water Booster Pack DLC - Orcs Must Die! 2 - PC Game Review

Image
I just got the Fire and Water Booster Pack for Orcs Must Die! 2. I am not sure if I should be annoyed at getting hit for more and more DLC - a few weeks after the game was released - or pleased at the extra content available. Right now, I'm tending toward the later. Fire and Water includes 3 new levels, 3 additional Endless Mode conversions, 3 new traps (Dart Spitter, Web Spinner, Floor Portal) and 2 new enemies. The Dart Spitter looks interesting when it works (spinning and sending darts everywhere). One cool upgrade it has is that it can charm enemies sometimes. Still haven't seen it happen, though. The Floor Portal should be useful (although probably bad for regular levels, since you will probably lose skulls for going over par time). The levels seem OK, but nothing special. The fire enemies are fairly generic, except for the Fireling that they let out when they die (2 or 4). These chase you and explode, setting you on fire. They can each take a full blast of the i...

Zombie Island of Dr. Ned - DLC - Review

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is DLC for Borderlands! . As you might imagine, it is zombie themed, and mostly revolves about killing a ton of zombies while carrying out missions, in the regular Borderlands! style. The difficulty was adequate and killing zombies was reasonably fun. There are a lot of funny dialogs throughout the island, too, including Dr. Ned's Claptrap and the constant Jakobs Corporation announcements. There are a few annoying things. First, you only have a single fast travel point for the whole island. This means that you spend a lot of time walking around. There are no vehicles. And of course, a lot of the time you'll have to kill zombies on the exactly same point. Where you spawn, there is a nice obvious place to jump that cuts through quite a bit of the walk - in theory. In practice, when you jump you are instantly respawned at the island entrance. VERY annoying. There are a few spots where if you walk to far from the coast the same happens - that ...

Solved - Borderlands locks up when loading DLC Zombie Island

I just finished Borderlands and so I bought the DLC pack. When fast traveling to Jacob's Cove to access Zombie Island, the loading screen went on and on without disk activity. How do you get it to continue? Well, what happened is that an activation window for the content popped up in the background, where there was no chance of me seeing it. You have to alt-tab to it (and for some reason I couldn't get the mouse to go there, but it works with just the keyboard), and then enter the serial for Zombie Island. After that it will go online to activate the DLC, and after a while it will be able to finish loading. Overall, a horribly implemented idea. All other DLC I ever bought just appeared in the game without further work in my part. AFAIK it is trivial for the program to use the Steam API to do it. No idea why they did it this way in this case... Amazon.com Widgets

Orcs Must Die: Lost Adventures - Game Review

Lost Adventures is the latest DLC for Orcs Must Die! What you get is: - Five New levels: these seem to be more or less on the same level of cleverness/difficulty/fun as the original levels. The Reverse Tower is a bit of cheating - it is The Tower level from the original game in reverse, with the doors on the upper two levels and the Rift down below. - Two New Enemies: the Frost Bat, which is basically the regular HellBats from the regular game releasing ice, and the Cyclops mage, which is OK. - New Trap: the Mana Well can supply you with mana. Not very exciting. It doesn't add a lot of stuff, but for US$3.99 it is good value if you already like the game. If you still want to upgrade any of the traps, the extra skulls (up to 50) should come in handy. It wasn't obvious (at least to me) how to play the new levels. I'm posting on a separate article how to play the new levels in Lost Adventures .

Magicka: Vietnam DLC

Image
A pretty crazy idea for DLC for a wizard game, but the first DLC for Magicka is about Vietnam! Including rocket launchers, machine guns and air strikes.
