 I read Delta-V, by Daniel Suarez (which I liked from other books, specially Daemon) last month and forgot to review it (seems common lately). This is a common theme for SF books - near future, add some mild advances, go mine asteroids, which is obviously a big step for humankind. Higher Education and The Billion Dollar Boy come to mind, although I seem to recall both had way more SF tech (I believe the second is mostly outside the solar system). Delta-V uses more realistic, currently available tech, and it does it in a very believable manner, with nice amounts of action and betrayal (technically a spoiler). It was quite enjoyable, and I happened to get it when I heard about the sequel, so when I finished (at about 2 a.m., I believe), I happily went to buy the sequel. Which was when I realized it was only on pre-sale, 2 months away. :-( Oh, well, it should be available next month, at least...

The Change Agent, by Daniel Suarez, is a biotech SF novel. In The Change Agent's world, biotech is everywhere, and many things that used to be produced are now grown. You can use CRISPR to edit genes, but any improvement is strictly forbidden - it can only be used to cure some specific diseases. However, there is a big black market where babies can be designed to be smarter, stronger and better looking. The main character (Durand) in the book is a data analyst that finds them, so they can be stopped and arrested. But the big boss in the worst of these companies knows it, and has hunted him down. And changed him into a genetic copy of him. Now everyone thinks he is the criminal mastermind... I really liked the tech intro in the beginning of the book. Then it goes to what is pretty much a big chase for Durand to get back to his old self. The action was nice, although I can't help but think that it was awful convenient that the data analyst was ex-military and super though...

I just finished Influx, by Daniel Suarez. A scientist discovers how to make gravity mirrors, but then a secret government agency that supresses disruptive advanced technology - and they make him disappear. But he is going to fight back. This was pretty good. I have liked other Daniel Suarez books - such as Daemon and the sequel Freedom , and while this one doesn't really reach their levels (the tech in Daemon seems so very feasible!), I really enjoyed the tech he made up for the book and the final battle. Some bits in the middle were a bit too tense for me, and the dystopic torture was particularly nasty, though. Overall, very much recommended.
