Desperados III - PC Game Review

Desperados III is an old West themed stealth tactical game. As usual for this kind of game, each mission feels like a complicated puzzle, where you have a few elements to use - different characters with each different skills/weapons, and points on the map. Graphics are pretty good, load times are reasonable, and in particular reloading is very fast. It is so tuned toward experimenting and reloading when it fails, that it has timer reminding you of your last save. There are also a reasonable amount of options on how you finish objectives, although most felt like you had a single reasonable course of action. Tutorials felt sufficient so far, and it even has a nice screen with tutorials explaining game concepts. Overall, I really like it so far.

Styx: Master of Shadows - PC Game Review

Styx: Master of Shadows is a stealth PC game.  It is a bit old, and that certainly shows in the graphics. Sound is good, and the overall stealth system seems ok, with the usual lights making you easier to detect, carpets dampening sound, etc. Seems ok overall, but nothing out of the ordinary for now. I'm also having some problem with finding the ways to objectives - seem a little too open in that aspect.

Gunpoint - PC Game Review

Image
Gunpoint is a puzzle/stealth game. I have reviewed a few of those, including Stealth Bastard  and Mark of the Ninja , but Gunpoint feels quite different. You are an spy who can take on different missions, and have a few gadgets. You can jump really high and stick to walls, but the most unusual game mechanic cames after you buy a gadget that allows you to rewire items in the game. For example, a wall switch might control the lights. But you can make it control other lights, doors, turn off cameras... And you can rewire things from afar, so that other people can trigger them unwittingly. You can also jump into guards (OK, that is a common platformer mechanic) and knock them out. It is also possible to jump through glasses. You also have upgrades points and several extra gadgets you can buy. The tutorial is well planned and explains most of what you need. There is also a very well done Load Savegame system, that allows you to go back several sets of seconds or restart th...

The Knife of Dunwall: DLC for Dishonored - PC Game Review

Image
The Knife of Dunwall is a DLC pack for Dishonored, which has 3 missions where you play Daud, the assassin of the Empress. Daud has pretty much the same powers as Corvo did, but has some new powers and gadgets - including Summon Assassins, Chokedust (stuns enemies for a short while) and Stun/Vaporize mines. One particularly interesting addition is the concept of Favors. You can buy those before a mission, and they can be something like a disabled alarm, a rune placed somewhere or a code to a safe. Very useful! I have finished the first mission, and I like it as much as the regular missions, that is, very much. Strongly recommended for fans of the game. And if you haven't looked into it already, I strongly recommend it too, and you can read my review for Dishonored . A nice start for the first mission of The Knife of Dunwall

Stealth Bastard Deluxe - PC Game Review

Image
Stealth Bastard Deluxe is a stealth platformer, but with a twist - instead of being slow and measured like most stealth games, it is much faster paced. In the game you start as a clone with no special equipment. You have a notice of your visibility to cameras at all times, and most of the levels are puzzles that need to be overcome to get to the next level. Some examples of puzzles are syncing to an object that generate shadow or the movement of a camera, pushing objects into buttons, as well as uses of hanging on ledges just above a laser or using them to jump to a specific place. Graphics are retro in a way that servers the game well, and gameplay is fun, although probably only for a limited time at once. You can use an equipment item at once. I have placed screen captures of each. How you earn the items is somewhat interesting - they get unlocked for a sector when you finish the sector boss. And even them, each get unlocked for each level when you play it enough times. ...

Dishonored - PC Game Review

Image
Dishonored is a stealth FPS, with a steampunk universe and plenty of magic mixed in. In the game, you are a bodyguard to the empress, who is turned into a stealthy assassin when you are framed for her murder. Graphics are pretty good, and overall I really like the stealth system (a little too simple compared to the old light meters, though). Movement is great and there are plenty of roof and pipes if you want to go that way. You have a number of powers available, which can be bought using runes. The first one you get allows you to teleport between short distances, which is great on a stealth game. There are upgrades for health, stealth, etc too. You have quite a few weapon upgrades, too, which you buy with coins and other rare objects you find in the world. There are plenty of ways to kill your enemies or sneak by them, and the game allows to you to go either way. I think the stealth option is usually way more fun, though (although a bit harder). You can also just knock oppon...
