Orcs Must Die! 2 - PC Game Review

Orcs Must Die! 2 is the sequel to the great Third-person shooter/Tower Defense Hybrid Orcs Must Die! .

It was one of my favorites last year, so when I first saw it available on pre-order, I bought it instantly.

After the events of the first game, the Sorceress was trapped on the Orcs side, without magic. And the War Mage, also without powers, was working on a mine. Just as the Sorceress was about to get killed by the Orcs, a new rift appeared, and she passed through to our world.

In the new game, you can play as either the Sorceress or the War Mage. The Sorceress main weapon is cute -  you can kill the orcs, charge for more effect (including an area of effect mode) or right-click to get them on your side and attacking your enemies temporarily.

The new levels so far all take place on mines. There are small wagons coming through the mine tracks that damage and stun the enemies. I liked the castle theme a little more, though.

As usual, there are plenty of traps you can get - but now you can buy many of them from the start, as long as you have the skulls - gained at each level for performance. There are also trinkets for several functions, including health.

As on the first game, there is plenty of strategy on choosing your traps and powers for each level, as well as in the placement of them.

I have enjoyed the game, although for some reason the originals levels were much fun. Took about 7 hours to finish all levels on War Mage difficulty.

It is interesting to note that many of the levels of the first game are available on Classical mode, and that unlike the first game, you must use skulls to unlock extra traps and trinkets. They also can be upgraded at least 4 times (3 regular upgrades plus a unique choice with an extra ability).

You can get extra skulls in any game, as well as in endless mode, which is nicer than the very tight choices on the first game.

Overall, very much recommended.
